Polymer X Plus is a concrete additive designed to modify portland cement to achieve a tenacious bond when mixed with sand, lime and water and applied over existing concrete surfaces. This modification gives the the formulated product improved flexibility to adhere to any structurally sound concrete surface without any threat of freeze thaw conditions.

Why PolymerX Plus

PolymerX Plus is an absolute must when it comes to applying cementitious overlays over existing concrete. The polymer additive gives the necessary flexibility and adhesion for an overlay system or resurfacer to adhere and bond tightly to structurally sound concrete surfaces. It is even more critical for freeze-thaw conditions.

PolymerX Plus Benefits

PolymerX Plus serves not only as a synthetic plastic additive for Portland cement but also provides waterproofing for suspended slabs, above-grade concrete, parking structures, and all other concrete that is susceptible to hydrostatic pressure that drives water from the soil up through the concrete surface. This hydrostatic pressure is the cause of many concrete coating product failures due to the forced hydration of moisture that is present in the ground underneath the concrete.

PolymerX Plus is water-based and is AT RISK OF FREEZING at temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Store in temperatures above freezing and not above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

PolymerX Plus Formula Mix Ratios 1:5(1-gallon of PolymerX Plus/5-gallons total mixture)

EXAMPLE:
Using a 5-gallon pale, pour 1-gallon PolymerX Plus into a 5-gallon Pale. Add 1-1/3 quarts type “s” lime. Using a power drill and mortar mixing paddle – mix thoroughly. Add 1-gallon Portland type 1-2 cement with 1 quart of water – mix thoroughly. Add 3-gallons #20/4095( for patching ) or #50/4010( for finish coat ) silica sand. Add water for desired consistency.
Patch mixture using #20/4095 silica sand, will cover an average of 25 sq.ft./gallon at 3/8” depth of spalling.
Finish coat mixtures using #50/4010 silica sand, will cover an average of 70 sq.ft./gallon with an average rate of 1/8” thickness. Variables to consider are porosity, roughness, and texture of the concrete surface, which will dictate the square foot rate of coverage for both the patching and finishing applications.

Determining the amount of PolymerX Plus to order:

Example using a 500 sq. ft. driveway

Patch Mix Rate( using #20/4095 silica sand )
25 sq.ft./gallon average coverage with surface spalling damages at an average depth of 3/8” thick.
Using our example of a 500 sq.ft driveway that has 1/2 ( 250 sq.ft.) of surface damage, at an average depth of 3/8″ thick.
Divide 250 sq.ft. by 25 sq. ft/gallon = 10-gallons of total mixture = 2-gallons PolymerX Plus.

Finish Coat Rate( using #50/4010 silica sand ).
70 sq.ft./gallon average coverage at 1/8” average thickness.
Divide 500 sq. ft by 70 sq.ft. = 7.14 gallons of total mixture = 1.43 gallons PolymerX Plus.

Total gallons of PolymerX Plus used( 2 + 1.43 ) = 3.43 Gallons

Total PolymerX Plus to order = 5 gal
( It’s always better to have More than Not enough! )
