Two Ways To Seal Concrete

1. Permanently  2. Temporarily

Permanently:

A specially formulated Silicone Rubber sealer designed to penetrate deep into the concrete surface seals all the porous conditions of the concrete and waterproofs the open elements of the surface permanently, making the concrete impervious to all wet weather conditions. Rain, hail, snow, sleet, or freezing, the lifetime sealer is performing flawlessly as designed.

The newly applied silicone rubber sealant is remarkably effective in creating a waterproof membrane that has proven the test of time. Concrete Design Systems has been applying this amazing product on concrete surfaces for 45 years and never had a call-back and the sealer still performing famously…pretty remarkable!

One of the side benefits is that the surface is non-slip in wet conditions under foot making the surface safe to walk on in any inclement weather condition. Best of all – the lifetime sealer only has to be applied ONCE… That’s it! That’s why we call it the “one-and-done” sealer application.

Temporarily:

Tradition has been to apply “topical acrylic or solvent concrete sealers” on concrete surfaces. This type of sealer serves its purpose in several ways. One is that it gives colored concrete a beautiful shiny and renewed finished look. It revitalizes concrete that has a colored dye placed in it and enhances the released highlighted color to make the newly sealed surface “pop”! Topical sealers enrich the old finish on any stamped concrete surface and give it new life, making it look brand new again. The downside is that these types of topical sealers require reapplying every few years to maintain.

Pros And Cons

Which one should you choose?

It’s pretty easy for you to decide which option to choose from…either the lifetime penetrating( one-and-done ) method or, the topical acrylic or solvent sealer(glossy finish).

Penetrating:

With the lifetime penetrating sealer it’s a one-time application that you never have to apply ever again. The downside to this process is that it leaves the concrete surface looking natural…the way it was before any sealers were ever applied. You have to be prepared to accept that the concrete will no longer have that rich vibrant look that a topical sealer gives to the surface. Economically the lifetime sealer is about 3 times the cost of topical sealers.

Topical:

With the topical acrylic/solvent sealers it requires added maintenance to repeat the application every few years to keep that shiny renewed look, due to the oxidation of the product with exposed sunlight. This means added expense from time to time to keep the concrete surface looking bright and vibrant. Experience shows that the average lifespan for these topical sealers last 2-5 years, depending upon the quality of the sealer. Without question, the topical sealers give the concrete a much deeper, richer aesthetic appeal bringing out the colors much more pronounced and beautiful. The cost of this approach is very reasonable. One has to determine for themselves if the repeated expense from time to time is worth the look. The downside is that the topical sealers are more slippery when wet. Just a word of caution that these are the risks of topical sealers.
